If you are new on campus and have been having trouble getting yourself started off right, this should be a perfect guide for you. These are my top seven tips for freshman.
Join a few clubs.
There are tons of clubs on campus, all you have to do is talk to the club advisor and join them. We have Photo club, Theater club, Ag club, Social Sciences, Math club and tons more. It’s best to balance out your course load with something fun, if you don’t then you may burn yourself out.
Make at least one friend in every class.
This is a super important tip so pay attention. If you have a friend in every class that you’re in and you miss a class, then they can help you get caught up without stressing yourself out too much.
Don’t overload your schedule but if you do, do it smart.
So, this one is tricky, don’t overload your schedule if you can help it. If you do that, do it in a way that doesn’t make you want to have a stroke mid-assignment. The way you can do that is to take some online classes and get a few weeks ahead all in one sitting that way you can go about your normal class schedule while getting more credits out of the way.
Always try to go to class.
This is kind of a no brainer, but please go to class. The majority of your teachers will appreciate it and will perhaps have mercy on you if you are struggling in their class. All in all, just go.
Learn where everything is on campus.
Learning the campus is a key factor in your survival at college. If you know where all the bathrooms are, or all the vending machines then you’re practically set for the rest of your time on campus.
Go to campus events.
Campus events are typically hosted by a club sponsor or club advisor, either way you can have loads of fun going to these events. There is always something going on during the week, such as karaoke, talent shows, swimming, and gaming tournaments. As stated earlier, you should never let yourself be bored on campus with all of the things that you can choose to do. You may even make friends at these events.
Be nice to all of your teachers.
Being a kind person can help you get through college anyways, but if you are nice to your teachers/professors then you may be given more opportunities to excel in your courses. Your teacher will most certainly appreciate it if you treat them with respect too, after all you did pay to be here.
