E-Gaming has been taking most schools by storm and it has made its way to Eastern Oklahoma State College, with an added club/event to partake in.
According to a January 2019 Wired.com article, “nearly 200 US colleges are offering around $15 million per year in scholarships, and university teams can earn millions more in tournament prizes.” While Eastern has not added an official esports team, the interest by students has definitely started to get noticed.
This has led Professor Paul Wills and the Sociology Club to begin hosting E-Gaming events every Monday night from 7-9 p.m. in the Mitchell 109. This is a continuation of regular gaming events that Multi-Media Communications Manager Garrick Dobson began helping put together last semester. There are plenty of games played at the event including “Halo: Reach,” “Mario Kart,” “Smash Bros,” “Fortnite” and “Mortal Kombat.”
Many students attend these events and have immense fun when they go. At every event, there are prizes to be won, ranging from cash to gift cards for the cafeteria (able to be used at the Cyber Café as well). The club plans to include more next generation consoles, but there needs to be a growth in attendance in order for that to happen. Go check out the newest campus event at Eastern Oklahoma State College every Monday.
