LARAMIE, Wyo. — The Eastern Oklahoma State College meats judging team placed 2nd in the Mountain West Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest A Division in Laramie, Wyo., on Jan. 17.
“With this being Eastern’s first year back competing in collegiate meat judging contests, I am very proud of the work this group has put in,” said Logan Rea, EOSC meats judging coach. “They have bought into a program that is rich in history and have made tremendous strides throughout the year. They are constantly working to get better.”
The Eastern team members included Jenna Hulsey, Wilburton, Okla.; Angelica Beck, Holdenville, Okla.; Garrett Latham, Coalgate, Okla.; and Taylor Chambers, Tushka, Okla.
In the sheep competition, the team placed 1st, with Hulsey earning high individual honors and Latham finishing as 6th high individual. In the beef grading competition, the team placed 3rd with Beck finishing as 4th high individual. In the pork competition, the team placed 2nd, with Hulsey earning 4th high individual. In the beef competition, the team placed 3rd. In the placing competition, the team placed 1st, with Beck earning 4th high individual and Chambers earning 5th high individual. In the questions competition, the team placed 3rd with Hulsey earning 3rd high individual.
Three of the team members placed in the top 10 overall individuals, with Hulsey placing 7th, Beck placing 8th and Latham placing 9th.
In the alternates contest, Lauren Beames, of Howe, Okla., earned high individual honors. Kristen Brown, of LeFlore, Okla., placed 2nd. Hadleigh Workman of Caney, Okla., placed 3rd.
2020-2021 is the first season Eastern has fielded a meats judging team in more than a decade.
