“Twelve Forever” isn’t perfect, but it shows potential

“Twelve Forever” is an interesting fun show with a bunch of potential. It is a Netflix original and is very reminiscent of the Cartoon Network show known as “Adventure Time.”

The main characters of the series are a red-headed, 12-year-old girl named Reggie and her closest friend Todd. The premise of the show is that Reggie doesn’t want to grow up and wants to stay 12 forever, but her mother wants Reggie to grow up and act like a woman. Her response to her mother is to make a “key” in art class. Later that day when she gets into a fight with her mother, Reggie runs to her room in attempt to escape her mom. Reggie then uses the “key,” and it helps her out in achieving escaping her mother by sending Reggie to a world known as Endless.

The world Endless is a crazy world filled to the brim with zany and weird characters. The world doesn’t adhere to our rules and is endless. The world has countless mountains, seas, lands, and are all weird in their own unique ways. The characters within this world are all very distinct and likable in their own way, however upon first meeting them it was hard to grasp them. They came kind of loud and a lot all at once, but they soothed themselves out as time went on, and I actually adore them now.

Reggie, along with her friend Todd, gains superpowers while in the world; she has super strength and he gains a form of shape shifting. While there isn’t much need for these powers because of there being very little danger or villains in the world Endless, it is still an interesting way to connect the characters from the real world to the characters in Endless.

This show has quickly become one of my favorites and one that I am genuinely excited to see going forward. For its first season, it isn’t a perfect show by any means, but it has a lot of potential to be a great show. I’ll give the first season of “Twelve Forever” a 3.5 out of 5. Not every episode is memorable and others seem to just pass on by, but there are plenty of episodes that provide great moments that you wouldn’t expect in a show targeted toward a younger audience.
